Crescent City String Camp & Festival

June 3 - 14, 2024

About

The Crescent City String Camp & Festival is a summer music program offering students of all ages and skill levels the unique opportunity of spending two weeks immersed in music education and performance.

Our mission is to provide a high-quality comprehensive and diverse program for young students in the greater New Orleans in the areas of violin, viola, cello, and double bass. We aim to stimulate the young mind in a fun and engaging setting.

The program aims to enrich the lives of students and develop creative and confident leaders through perpetuating cultural diversity, intellectual curiosity, discipline, respect, and appreciation for the arts.

The 2024 Crescent City String Camp & Festival will be hosted at the Crescent City Christian School from June 3-14, 2024.

Testimonials

Sarah absolutely enjoyed her time with the program. As homeschoolers, it has been difficult to find options for her to play in a group that wasn’t cost prohibitive. There are many wonderful programs locally, but unfortunately they were completely out of our budget. So thank you so much for what you are building!! It has greatly enhanced Sarah’s love of music and playing with others.

Last year we had the opportunity of seeing Eli elevate his skills during summer camp. Outside of the passion the instructors pour into the students and their progress, you can also see them working diligently to encourage positive habits and structure in their lives. Music has been a big part of my son’s life and this has only propelled forward in his journey as a musician. Moises and Elizabeth are doing a phenomenal job at building culture within the Crescent City Strings Academy.

They will be properly introduced to the violin, viola, or cello and will have a blast performing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star with their new friends at the final concert.

The Krewe of Strings Camp is designed for students up to age 13 that are currently studying a string instrument. Krewe of String students will participate in daily chamber music classes, group technique class, music history and theory games and activities, and interactive art classes. They will also receive individual instruction and participate in masterclasses throughout the camp. The curriculum for group classes includes culturally significant pieces, group improvisation, chamber and orchestral pieces from the classical repertoire and from underrepresented composers.

The Young Artist Program is for advanced, talented, and motivated high school and college age students. Students are offered private lessons, chamber music classes, jazz improvisation, and masterclasses with string faculty and internationally recognized guest artists.

FAQs

What instruments are offered through the camp?

Our program specializes in violin, viola, cello, and double bass!

My child does not play a string instrument but might be interested in learning one. Is this the right camp for them?

Yes! Twinkle Camp is designed for students new to a string instrument to have fun learning each day. In just two weeks, they will learn the proper basics of their instrument and perform on the final concert. We will have a limited number of instruments available for use during the camp and help them pick an instrument that is a good fit for them. They will go through all the beginning steps of learning to care for their instrument as well as setup and beginning music making. In addition to playing classes, Twinkle Camp will include music games and art.

Students interested in the Krewe of Strings program will have the opportunity to participate in music and art activities from 10am to 4pm.

If you are already interested in renting/purchasing an instrument, we recommend our local Keller Strings shop.

If I cannot drop off and pick up my child at the start and end of the camp hours, is my child eligible for before and after care?

Yes! Students enrolled in the Krewe of Strings program are eligible to come as early as 6 am and stay until 6 pm through the Crescent City Christian School Summer Camp before and after care program (upon request for an additional fee)

Will lunch be provided?

No, students will need to bring their lunch each day. The Snack Shack will be available for purchasing snacks in the afternoon.

What if my child is only available for one of the camp weeks?

We are happy to review and accept students for partial camp enrollment on a case-by-case basis.

Where can my child study music throughout the year?

At the Crescent City String Academy, we offer private lessons, group classes, string orchestra, and chamber music throughout the year. Each semester our students perform in a recital, as well as participate in musical events across the city and state.
